When you walk through the doors of First Christian Church Jeffersonville (FCCJeff), you walk into a community that is deeply connected to one another. Before worship begins, people linger in conversation throughout the sanctuary and hallways—checking on each other’s kids and parents, sharing stories from the week, talking through hard things, laughing loudly, and making plans for lunch afterward.

Harmonious nonuniformity
Some people have worshiped here for most of their lives. Others are still learning names and figuring out where they fit. What holds the community together is not that everyone believes the exact same things or comes from the same background. In fact, they do not. FCCJeff is made up of people asking questions, wrestling with faith, carrying doubts, holding convictions, and trying to learn what it means to love God and neighbor in a complicated world.

Even the sanctuary reflects that understanding of faith and community. The pews surround the communion table in a wide circle, placing the table, not the stage, at the center of worship and reminding us that we gather together on equal ground. The ministers sit among the congregation because they, too, are part of the gathered community.
As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we practice an open table, meaning everyone is welcome to communion because we believe God’s love has no boundaries. We do not require people to check their questions at the door or subscribe to rigid creeds before belonging here. We believe faith continues to grow and change throughout our lives, and that honest wrestling can itself be a sacred act.

Actively participating with our community
Being rooted in Jeffersonville shapes how we live out that faith together. At the entrance to our parking lot sits a Little Free Pantry and Little Free Library where neighbors can pick up food, leave groceries, or share books with one another. During the school year, FCCJeff partners with Riverside Elementary to provide 50 backpacks of food each week for children living in food insecure homes so students have meals over the weekend. Throughout the year, the church helps families with school clothes expenses, supports Toys for Tots and food drives, partners with the Center for Lay Ministries, and opens its doors to the wider community through ministries, recovery groups, and outreach.
Every Season and Shape
There is no single way to belong.
Community also grows in smaller and quieter ways here. Young moms gather monthly for friendship and support while raising children. Coffee Chat meets every Tuesday morning as a place to build relationships with one another and the pastoral staff. Theology on Tap creates space for harder conversations about faith, justice, doubt, and how to extend grace in an increasingly divided world. Children fill the hallways during VBS and Sunday mornings, while senior adults gather for fellowship, service, and care. On any given week, you might also find people playing basketball or pickleball in the gym, gathering for PiYo or Bunco, or sitting around tables playing Dungeons & Dragons together.
There is no single type of person at FCCJeff, and there is no one way to belong here. What we are trying to create is a community where people can be known, challenged, supported, and reminded that grace still has the power to hold people together
